When I work for VAL, I sometimes ask “what kind of music do you like?”
(strangely enough, I have never been asked this question.)
Almost every person answered a record of someone or genres, for example classical music, jazz music or female vocalists singing.
The answer from people overseas is always, "I'll listen to anything."
They also don’t answer the question who are your favorite musicians.
On the other hand, people who play instruments answer the names of their favorites and the song titles.
The people who answer my questions have their own sound. Their audio system sounds what they want and love, as it is part of their humanity.
This is not a matter of good or bad, but just a matter of tendency.
Well, for me, when it comes to vocals, it's jazz and opera.
In jazz,Peggy Lee, Lee Wylie, Chet Baker, Matt Dennis, and Satchmo all have great voices. Nat King Cole and Sinatra are too famous lol
In opera, there are many names like Kathreen Ferrier, Maria Callas, Gigli, Pavarotti, Sutherland, Tebaldi...
In instrumental classical music, I guess Beethoven's symphonies are the best? It's a bit difficult to choose at the conductor and orchestra level. For violinists, Milstein, Szigeti, Kemp, and Cziffra's slightly uncharacteristic performances are also good once in a while.
My main focus is inevitably on older performances.
The records were made differently from those made today, but they still produced a fascinating sound.

オーディオの仕事をしているとき、私が時々尋ねる質問は、
『どんな音楽が好きなのか？』
です。
この話題、他の方から問われたことがほとんどありません。
回答は、『誰々のナントカいうレコード』とか『クラシック』『ジャズ』『女性ボーカル』というようなジャンルでの答えが多い印象です。
因みに海外の方々の答えは『なんでも聴くよ』がなぜか多かったのです。
『誰が好き？』
という質問にも答えがないことも多い印象です。
因みにバンドなどやっている演奏家は具体的なアーティスト名や曲名を話してくれます。
この質問に答えがある人のオーディオは、その人の個性が反映された、まとまりある音楽を聴かせてくれます。音色もその方を表すようなものです。
一方でそうでない人のは所謂オーディオ的な音ですね。
これは良し悪しの話ではなく、傾向のお話に過ぎません。
さて、私の場合は、ボーカルと言えばジャズとオペラ。
ジャズならベギーリー、リーワイリー、チェットベイカー，マットデニス、サッチモもいい声してますね。ナットキングコール、シナトラなどは、まあ有名過ぎて笑
オペラ系ならキャスリンフェリア、マリアカラス、ジーリ、パバロッティ、サザーランド、テバルディ…たくさん出て来ます。
器楽系クラシックなら、交響曲はヴェートーヴェンかなぁ？指揮者、楽団レベルで選ぶとなるとらちょっと難しい。バイオリニストならミルシュティン、シゲティ、ケンプ、シフラのちょっとらしくない演奏もたまにはイイです。
私のメインはどうしても古い演奏が多めです。
今時のレコードとは作りが違いますが、魅力的な音を奏でますよ。
沢山の盤で沢山の音楽を楽しみましょう。
